You paint the wall a base coat color. This color will show through the finished look. Then take a sea sponge and dip in a different color (lighter or darker - depending on the effect you want) and blot it on paper towel or rag, then lightly blot it randomly on the wall - all the while turning the sponge in different directions (so all the spots don't look the same). You can apply up to 3 colors. Be sure not to fill in ALL the space. It looks better sparse.

Sponge painting is a fun technique to use. You need paint a pan and a sponge. All you do is dip the sponge in the paint then apply to the wall where ever you want the sponge effect to be. It is very fun for kids also.
