No It Is Not '8':

Assuming the concentration of the strong monoprotic acid(eg. HCl) in the solution = 10-8 mol/L and this has been added to pure water, which already contains 10-7 mol/L H+ions, the total concentration of H+ions can be reasonably well approximated by adding up these two values, so [H+]total will be 1.1*10-7 .

As pH is defined at the negative of the logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions the outcome is 6.96 rounded to pH = 7, which is of course much better than the (often MIScalculated) pH value 8, because adding an ACID always decreases the pH value, NEVER increased to 'above' 7!

And also, assuming the concentration of a strong monoprotic base NaOH in the solution = 10-8 mol/L and this has been added to pure water, which already contains 10-7 mol/L OH- ions, the total concentration of OH-ions can be reasonably well approximated by adding up these two values, so [OH-]total will be 1.1*10-7 . So pH = 14 - pOH = 7.04. This is the same parallel story for base and acid.

Why is hydrogen chloride not collected over water?

Hydrogen chloride is soluble in water, so attempting to collect it over water would result in a significant amount of the gas being lost as it goes into an aqueous solution that will soon become dangerously acidic.

Does hydrogen chlorine dissolve?

Assuming that the question is asking if hydrogen chloride is soluble in water, yes. Hydrogen chloride, when dissolved in water, becomes Hydrochloric acid.

When hydrogen chloride is dissolved in water to form hydrochloric acid what happens to the hydrogen chloride?

when hydrogen chloride is dissolved in water to form hydrochloric acid, the hydrogen chloride turns to HCL subscript 38 because of the water molecules. i also believe that they change from clear to a misty green colour but it may just be the result of a dirty test tube.

What is formed when you bond hydrogen and chlorine?

Hydrogen chloride. If you mix it with water, you get hydrochloric acid.

Is hydrogen chloride gas a good conductor of electricity?

For electricity to be conducted charge transfer should take place between two oppositely charged ends and charge transfer can take place only through movement of charged particles( free electrons or ions). In case of Hydrogen chloride gas hydrogen and chlorine atom have strong covalent bond between themselves so they don't separate to form ions.Hydrogen chloride gas molecules don't have free electrons either. So it is obvious that hydrogen chloride gas is not a good conductor of electricity.Note: aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride in water is a good conductor as hydrogen chloride separates into hydrogen cation(H+ ) and chloride anion(Cl- ).

How do you prepare HCL solution in Laboratory?

Hydrochloric acid is prepared by dissolving hydrogen chloride gas in water. Hydrogen chloride is a covalent compound, but when dissolved in water it ionizes to form hydrogen ions and chloride ions as follows: By Kuldeep K. bansal INDIA

Is hydrochloric acid a liquid?

Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is a gas. In the lab concentrated water hydrogen chloride solution (about 37 %, 18 M) is fuming; when opened so very dangerous. Sometimes the water solution of HCl gas is called hydrochloric acid (but this is not valid in all the languages).

Can you separate hydrogen in the sodium chloride solution?

NaCl itself will not render any hydrogen, however you can separate hydrogen from the water through the process of electrolysis. During electrolysis of NaCl solution, hydrogen will be evolved at cathode.
