The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812, and restored the United States and Britain to their relationship status prior to the war. As a result of the unsatisfactory communication system of the period, word the war was over did not reach some British and American soldiers, who clashed during the Battle of New Orleans.

The Ghent Treaty, or the Peace Treaty, was signed to end the war of 1812.

It stated, basically, that everything will go back to the way it was before the war. It was considered a "temporary peace treaty" so that both countries could nurse their wounds and get back on their feet.
