What is a hawks lair?

Hawks build a nest in a tall tree or on the side of a cliff. A
lair is usually thought of as a cave or den, used by ground
dwelling animals. If they are not nesting, they will roost at night
in tall trees hidden by leaves. Hawks do not see well at night,
their eyes are made for detecting movement during daytime. They are
vulnerable to predators at night, so it is important that they find
safe places off the ground to sleep.

Do foxes live in a lair?

A lair is a general term for an underground or enclosed place
that an animal not necessarily a fox uses to hide, sleep, etc. The
name for a fox's lair is a 'den', or a less commonly used term for
a fox's lair is a 'covert'. I don't think I have ever heard it
called anything else, either. As children, we just called it a fox
hole. I've heard it called a den on a TV nature show, too.
Occasionally a fox's lair is also referred to as a 'holt'.
