When referring to subwoofer enclosures, ported and vented are the same thing, as opposed to a sealed box.
Sealed boxes are said to provide a harder "hit" and better sound quality but may not sound as loud as a ported box. Neither type of box is particularly "better" than the other, so the choice is between SQ (sound quality) of a sealed box vs. the louder but slightly poorer sound of a ported box. Hope this helps!

To get the best quality out of a subwoofer is to check the RMS power rating on the sub and make sure that the amp is sending that power out in that power range. if not enough power is going to the sub it will not perform to its fullest but if too much power is going to the sub it will not sound good and possibly blow the sub. and also the type of box the sub is in effects how good it sounds. a sealed box will give you a longer range of sound while a ported or vented box will give you more bass.
