A cam sprocket is a part which is attached to one end of a cam shaft in an engine. A cam sprocket, along with the timing belt maintain the timing between the camshaft and crankshaft, which ensures that the engine runs properly.
The sprocket on the nose of the crankshaft that drives the cam sprocket.
Look closly at the sprocket and you will see a small dot or indentation, you align both dots (cam and crank sprocket dots)
Generally, for most single cam engines, there is a dot or mark on the cam sprocket and a similar mark on the crank sprocket. Point them at each other. the timing marks on the crank and cam sprockets must be lined up with marks on the timing chain in an overhead cam engine
The bora v5 does not have a cam belt. It has two timing chains. The first is driven by a sprocket on the crankshaft. This first chain drives a sprocket connected to a smaller sprocket on a common shaft. This smaller sprocket drives the camshaft chain which drives the twin cam shafts. Both chains have tensioners.
The timing marks for the cam sprocket on a 98 S10 is on the front. The marks for the crank shaft is on the oil pump gear.
If its a single cam engine the top dead center marks will be on the crank sprocket and the oil pump housing. (notches facing upward) and on the cam sprocket the notch is on the cam cover. You musnt remove it when timing the engine sprockets. . On DUAL cam 2.0 the intake and exhaust cams have 2 marks. the intake (rear sprocket) will have a notch facing up and one toward the front of the car. The exhaust cam sprocket(front one) will have a mark facing upward and the other aligning with the intake one but it will be facing rear. They must be pointing towards each other. the crank sprocket is the same as the single cam alingment.
Front of the engine, points at the driver side cam sprocket.Front of the engine, points at the driver side cam sprocket.
right behind the top sprocket of the timing chain
its on the front of engine it holds the cam sprocket from spinning so if you pull off the sprocket you will see it hope this helps
Cam belt sprocket/guide, I believe is the answer you are looking for.
The firing order for this van should be 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, unless the cam has been improperly installed. to check the O on the crankshaft cam sprocket sould be inline with the dot on the cam sprocket.
When the engine is at #1 TDC, the dot on the crankshaft sprocket is at 12 o'clock, and the dot on the cam sprocket is at 6 o'clock.
