Well any horse would be fine but if your child wants to be able to put on the saddle,do up girths etc then the perfect height would be 14 hands high because then when your child grows it will still fit the horse :)

This depends really on your specific situation. Many parents simply wait until the child is asleep or away at a friend or relatives house then bring the horse to the stable the child rides at and place a bow on it and wait for the child to find the horse. Other times you may be able to do a 'treasure hunt' type game with the horse being the 'buried treasure'. Guessing games can be fun for the parents, and of course a traditional version of giving a horse to a child is to give a Birthday or Christmas present consisting of a halter for the horse with a picture attached to it.
