A circular saw has a blade that is a circle in shape with the saw teeth around the circumference. The blade designed to rotate and cut in one direction. It is a power saw. The blade rotates at high speed to make straight cuts, and can either be moved across the piece being cut, or be fixed, with the piece moved across the cutting blade.
There are many forms including:
* hand-held -very portable and convenient small saws * drop-saw - the saw is mounted over a sawbench and can pivot down (drop) onto the piece to be cut to makes straight accurate cuts
* radial arm saw- the saw is mounted over a sawbench and can be slid across the piece to be cut to make straight accurate cuts of adjustable depth * bench saw/table saw - the saw is mounted beneath a bench or table surface and the height of the blade penetrating this surface can be adjusted to adjust the depth of cut. The saw is stationary and the piece is moved across the blade. * Some of the above saws can be adjusted to cut at an angle across the piece and are also mitre saws.
A circular saw is one that has a base shoe and a carrying/operating handle and generally a 7 1/4 inch blade. Many 'carpenter' models have an 8 1/4 inch blade as does my DeWalt
