Grass roots is a word used to pretend that there is widespread, quiet but steady and grounded, support for your political agenda. You apparently represent a great number of adoring fans who are unlikely to exist. Like Ross Perot's volunteers, for example. Democratic is probably the most abused word in the English language. Democratic principles generally mean widespread voting, or "mob rule," on a limited number of governmental decisions. Since both words are more or less lies, it can be argued that all, some, or no country has used grass root politics to encourage democratic principles. What does it mean that a country uses? Can you have grass roots from the top down? You can have democracy from the top down, just ask Andrew Jackson. Bottom line is that you kind of have to be a big intellectual to be stupid enough to believe this pointless talk.
