Delta's are sedimentary deposits...river's deposit sediments as they merge into seas! Many of the word's population live on dellta plains and use the arable land to produce agriculture. Also, many Freshwater Fish live in deltas and the populations use these fisheries as sources for sustenance and as a source of economic gain. 7 of the world's megacities reside on megadeltas!

Because Egypt is basically a giant desert with nothing but sand. The sea has salt water which cannot be drunk because of it. The Nile is important because it could be drunk by the Egyptians, used to grow their crops and livestock, and made travel easier.
