From the second movie you can get that the demon has been there a while and wants the son. Why is this?
This is also explained: The demon is after the boy because, through quick implications from the script, he's the first to be born in a few generations. The demon was probably promised the son in exchange for its gift, and when the child was born it wanted him.
It scared to gain power, then attacked and killed to remove any obstacle.

∙ 12y agoIn an inference I made in Paranormal Activity 3's trailer (Since PA 3 is where the demon first came...) it showed Kristie and Katy doing the Bloody Mary thing which at the end of that scene you saw a shadow of a girl demon.
So the demon is probably Bloody Mary...
(In the folklore of Bloody Mary she most likely kills the person who summoned her or less likely just to haunt them the rest of their lives)
