A drop down window is where you click on a control and another menu pops up. If you are using internet Explorer, you can see one right now. Move to the top of the screen and find the address bar. At the extreme right of the address bar is an arrow pointing downwards - if you click on it, a drop down menu will appear with a list of options - in this case, websites that you have visited in the past. You use one of these options by clicking on it - say that you wanted to go to Google and you had typed www.Google.com into the address bar the previous day. You would use the dropdown menu to find Google and click on it.
Dropdown menus are usuallly used when there are a large number of options for a setting, and can be an alternative to the 'dots' (sry, don't know the actual term) where you have a series of circles and you click to place the dot in the circle corresponding to the option you have selected.

well I've got this same issue on a VW Polo and I'm going to release the 2 window glass clamps, even if I need to cut an access hole to get a spanner on them, and then drop the entire window mech and cables, repair/replace the motor, then (on the bench) make the motor "drop the window clamps" to the half-open position, then replace the mech in the door and drop the glass back in and clamp it up. I'm tempted to just break the glass window and drag the whole mech out. The window it not too expensive, and it would save having to unclamp it from the mech. fingers crossed GC United Kingdom if only they would use decent kit in the first place.
