An endothermic reaction is a chemical reaction in which energy (heat, light, etc.) is absorbed instead of being released as it is in a exothermic reaction. It may also be called a hypothermic reaction.

An endothermic reaction is one that results in a net loss of heat.

That is, an endothermic reaction solution should be colder after reaction than it was before the reaction. Often this means that endothermic reactions require additional heat to progress (such as from a Bunsen burner).

This generally means that the heat you put into the reaction is being converted into bond energy. Consequently, an endothermic reaction is one where the bond energy of the products is higher than that of the reactants.

Perhaps slightly counter-intuitively, this means having a positive value for ∆H when considering reaction thermodynamics.

This is a reaction that takes in thermal energy from its surroundings, therefor will feel cold. It is the opposite of an exothermic reaction :)
