What is the difference between a film score and soundtrack?

A film score is the music playing in the background during a movie, or, film. This often is orchestral style music, but recently, the style of film scores have gotten broader, encompassing more electronic elements and synths.

Examples of Film scores:

1. Star Wars episode 4 - john Williams - classic bold orchestral style film score
2. Braveheart - James Horner - also epic orchestral style music with bagpipe implemented
3. The Bourne Supremacy - John Powell - example of a more modern stlye score, with the fusion of electronics, Guitars, & orchestra. Powell is a British composer who often combines electronics & orchestra in a score

A film composer is a person who writes music for a particular movie. They are responsible for all of the music that is heard within any movie as well as all the players that are hired to play the music.
