A good conflict for a love story could be the struggle between pursuing individual dreams or goals and maintaining the relationship, or perhaps a misunderstanding or lack of communication leading to doubt and insecurity in the relationship. Another common conflict is external obstacles such as disapproving families, cultural differences, or long-distance challenges.
One classic conflict is parental or family objections to the pairing. For example the parents of the girl might think her boy friend is too poor, too old, too young, of the wrong social or racial class, not smart enough, not well enough educated, of the wrong religion, he or his family have a bad reputation. In such stories, the parents do what they can to keep them apart - e.g. threaten to disinherit the girl, send her abroad to study, put her in a convent,
threaten the boy, bribe the boy. etc. etc.
If you are writing a story about two lesbian lovers, conflicts can include jealousy, third party interference, or a lack of commitment.
