Best Answer

A homogeneous mixture is a solution that is made up from different substances thoroughly mixed at molecular level. A homogeneous mixture's synonym is a solution. A solution is always clear.

A heterogenous mixture is a mixture that contains two or more different substances. A mixture of sand and sugar would be an example. The term "hetero" is often used in science, and means "different." If you stay with science you will come across it often. DL

How many types of hplc columns?

There are several column types, according to their function, they can be classified as: a) Normal phase In this column type, the retention is governed by the interaction of the polar parts of the stationary phase and solute. For retention to occur in normal phase, the packing must be more polar than the mobile phase with respect to the sample. Therefore, the stationary phase is usually silica and typical mobile phases are hexane, methylene chloride, chloroform, diethyl ether, and mixtures of these. b) Reverse phase In this column the packing material is relatively nonpolar and the solvent is polar with respect to the sample. Retention is the result of the interaction of the nonpolar components of the solutes and the nonpolar stationary phase. Typical stationary phases are nonpolar hydrocarbons, waxy liquids, or bonded hydrocarbons (such as C18, C8, etc.) and the solvents are polar aqueous-organic mixtures such as methanol-water or acetonitrile-water. c) Size exclusion In this column type, molecules are separated according to size. Small molecules penetrate into the pores within the packing while larger molecules only partially penetrate the pores. The large molecules elute before the smaller molecules. d) Ion exchange In this column type the sample components are separated based upon attractive ionic forces between molecules carrying charged groups of opposite charge to those charges on the stationary phase. Separations are made between a polar mobile liquid, usually water containing salts or small amounts of alcohols, and a stationary phase containing either acidic or basic fixed sites. This HP 1090 Chromatograph is also equipped with an oven in the column compartment. The function of the oven is to provide an homogeneus air-bath temperature when it is required for some methods, such as the carbohydrate separation method which requires a constant temperature of 85ΒΊC.

What is the plane source equation for a gamma radiation source?

A gamma ray is an extremely high energy photon or "ray" of electromagnetic radiation. Gamma rays appear at the extreme upper end of the electromagnetic spectrum, up above X-rays with a bit of overlap. Their wavelengths are on the order of 10-11 meters (10 picometers), which translates into a frequency of about 30 x 1018 Hz. They have energies of 100 keV and up, and are created by actions or reactions involving atomic nuclei. Gamma rays are a form of ionizing radiation, and they have very good penetrating power. They appear as a result of changes in atomic nuclei, and will cause some biological damage to living tissue. We are getting "zapped" by them all the time as part of natural background radiation. mixtures that are mixed well in terms of you cant see any difference in them(e.g salt in water after being stirred)

Is tacos an example of heterogeneous or homogeneous mixture?

Yes. If you can visually see the components of the mixture (in this case, tortilla, black beans, cheese, etc.) then the mixture is heterogeneous. (The prefix "hetero-" means different, as in you can see the different parts with the unaided eye.)
