The definition of a classic novel is a novel which can be applied to any time period. There's not a specific list of "Classic Novels." They can be as old as Homer's Odyssey, or as recent as Thoreau's Walden. Keep in mind however, that even though the exact circumstances of the novel might not be applicable to any time period, the deeper social or political message can.
