Mono means one and theistic means god.

Therefore, someone who is monotheistic follows monotheism, which is the belief that there is only one God.

Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all proponents of monotheism.

A monotheist is one who believes in only one God. This is in contrast to those who worship two or more gods which is called pantheism. An example of monotheism is Judaism, and example of pantheism is the practices of the Greeks and Romans of ancient times.

Answer

Going down the list of religion types organized by the number of gods they worship;

  • Pantheists believe there is a god or spirit associated with everything in the world
  • Polytheists believe in a pantheon of many gods
  • Monotheists believe in one god
  • Non-theists have religions where the presence or absence of gods is of no importance
  • Agnostics do not know if there are gods and see no way to resolve the issue
  • Atheists have concluded there are no gods.

One where its members only believe that there is only one god. Those faiths which believe that God the father, God the son and the Holy Spirit are all one may be said to be a monotheistic faith. Though much could be said about this question let this answer suffice.

A monotheistic religion has only one God. Christianity is the prime example of course. By comparison, there are polytheistic religions (many gods) such as Hinduism and the ancient Greek belief system, headed by Zeus. Another alternative view is pantheism, the idea that God is in everything. Nature is God. Atheism is the belief that there is no God.
