Paganism received a lot of harsh criticism in The Bible, but it is an ancient religious tradition that accepts many deities (gods and goddesses) and shows deep respect for nature. There is some evidence that pagan religions have been around for thousands of years in one form or other. A neo-pagan has taken these ancient customs and beliefs and adapted them to the modern world. Some draw upon the traditions, gods and goddesses of ancient Norse or Celtic or Egyptian religions. Others create a new hybrid that combines the ancient and the modern. One of the largest of the neo-pagan religions is Wicca, which is based on goddess-worship and reverence for the earth. Contrary to anti-pagan myth, pagans and wiccans do not worship the devil, nor do they practice so-called "black magic." The chief ethical principal of a neo-pagan is "harm no-one."
