Rival: Trade name used by the H. & D. Folsom Arms Company on firearms made for the Van Camp Hardware and Iron Company of Indianapolis, Indiana. It was probably imported from Belgium (look for "ELG*" in an oval on the action) or made by Folsom's subsidiary, Crescent Firearms in Norwich, CT., c. 1900. The damascus barrels probably came from Belgium, but the ELG* will only be on the barrels, not on the action, if the rest of the gun was made in the US by Crescent. It is strictly a mantle decoration unless you can load your own black powder shells. Value as such is about $125-$150 unless in NRA Antique Excellent condition.

I just purchased one at auction for $250 in quite good condition. An early tag attached to the trigger guard says "Perkins,London 1840". Perkins is on the side plate. London is between the barrels on top.
