polarity refers to a separation of electric charge leading to a molecule or its chemical groups having an electric dipole or multipole moment. Polar molecules interact through dipole-dipole intermolecular forces and hydrogen bonds. Molecular polarity is dependent on the difference in electronegativity between atoms in a compound and the asymmetry of the compound's structure. For example, a molecule of water is polar because of the unequal sharing of its electrons in a "bent" structure, whereas methane is considered non-polar because the carbon shares the electrons with the hydrogen atoms almost uniformly. Polarity underlies a number of physical properties including surface tension, solubility, and melting- and boiling-points.

If a point P is unrestricted, both r and theta can independently take any value. but if P is constrained to a particular path the values that r and or theta can take are limited. e,g. P LIES ON A CIRCLE WITH CENTRE O AND RADIUS A THEN FOR ALL POSSIBLE POSSITIONS PF p r=a thus r=a is the polar equation of the locus of P. Which types of chemicals can be dissolved by non polar solutions like cyclohexane?

Solid non-polar substances such as paraffin can be dissolved by non-polar solvents such as cyclohexane.

Is CaCl non-polar?

it is a salt and therefore ionic is is however slightly soluble in polar solutions

Is a nonpolar compound miscible with water?

No, water is polar and in general like dissolves like so non polar solutions are miscible with other nonpolar solution and water is miscible with other polar solutions.

Why is Sodium methylparaben more soluble in water than Methylparaben?

Sodium is ionic, meaning that sodium methylparaben has a polarity that methylparaben does not. Polar solutions will always be more soluble in other polar solutions (like water, for example) than in non-polar solutions.

Is H2O ionic polar or non polar?

H2O is polar because of the two hydrogen molecules being attracted to the hydrogen molecule and water is a universal solvent which means it can dissolve solutions and has polarity.

Explain the statement like dissolves like?

Like dissolves like meaning that a polar substance will dissolve a polar substance and nonpolar substance will dissolve other polar substances. By contrast nonpolar and polar substances will not dissolve one another.

What would happen if petrol was mixed with magnesium sulfate?

Petrol is a non polar solvent. Magnesium sulfate is a polar solution. Therefore these two solutions will not dissolve in each other.
