Authority is also power. It is power that is gained by a person in a hierarchy when it is delegated to him by his superior.

Power is a more general concept and a person can have power due to various bases or foundations. A rich man has power due to his money.

An authoritarian leader is someone who is in charge of every part of an organization. When the authoritarian leader tells the personnel what to do, then he or she must do exactly what they have been told to do in the correct way.

An example of an authoritarian leader is a drill sergeant found in the army, telling troops exactly what to do. If the troops are unsuccessful to complete the task, then they will be punished.

A democratic leader, on the other hand, is someone who still has the higher authority but less authority than an authoritarian leader. A democratic leader is a leader who will encourage people in the group to make decisions about the task at hand. This type of authority is often used by teachers.
