Usually a bottom end bearing problem mostly caused by lack of oil changes or high mileage on engine. You can try to replace the bearings but usually it's a temporary fix at best as there is probably crankshaft wear.
Under the exhaust manifold.
LS does not have a knock sensor. GSR does have a knock sensor
The knock sensor is located under the intake manifold on the passenger side of the engine. It can be accessed from under the vehicle. Look above and to the slight left of the oil filter on the back of the engine. The knock sensor will resemble a small battery terminal with a bolt through to the engine.
knock sensor is going bad or is bad
The knock sensor just advances and retards the engine timing only. If there is a noise in the engine then you have engine are valve train problems. The knock sensor will not make the engine knock.
This is controlled by a knock sensor.
I have a recent engine knock on my 91 escort started out intermittant. I have a recent engine knock on my 91 escort started out intermittant.
knocking as in spark knock? or engine knock? spark knock is adjusted through a knock sensor via ignition timing. eng. knock is due to brg. knock as in low oil pressure or sluge in engine or just a tired motor
The sensor senses when the engine is pinging or called spark knock. It then sends a signal to the engine control module. The engine control module then temporarily retards the timing until the pinging stops.
NO it will not. If you have a knocking sound then you have trouble inside of the engine.
Check the 91 Legend for a bad knock sensor. Check the timing for proper setting, and check for any vacuum leaks.
No. It only senses engine vibration/knock.
Severe spark knock (pinging) can damage the engine. Knock sensors detect spark knock (pinging) in the engine. They send that info to the ECM (Engine Control Module). The ECM makes temporary adjustments in engine timing to eliminate the spark knock.
A bad knock sensor would illuminate the check engine light and allow the engine to ping (spark knock). The engine doesn't shift, the transmission shifts.
And engine knock is normally caused but I worn crankshaft bearing or rod bearing.
If the knock sensor failed the CEL (Check Engine Light) would be illuminated and the engine may "ping" or "spark knock" under load. Serious "spark knock" can damage the engine if allowed to continue.
The knock sensor, in your 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, can be found on the front of the engine. The knock sensor is near the top of the engine.
Yes it can hurt your engine to drive with a bad knock sensor. The knock sensor should be replaced as soon as possible.
The 2006 Dodge charger knock sensor is located on the back of the engine. The knock sensor will be near the bottom of the engine cover.
souds like its low on oil or may need lifters or possible it needs a cam or new timing chain depending on the knock . i would make sure its full of oil first . if that's not it i would take it to a machanic
Disconnect the negative battery cable.Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container.Unplug the sensor connector.Using the proper size socket, loosen and remove the knock sensor. To install:Carefully thread the sensor into the engine block.Tighten the sensor.Attach the sensor connector.Refill the engine coolant.Connect the negative battery cable.
The engine will knock.
It senses engine knock and sends the information to the ecu, which will react to protect your engine from being damaged.
It retards / slows the engine timing up when it detects an engine knock / pining noise like bad fuel are valve noise.
