Best Answer

1) Offspring vary slightly from their parents

2) More offspring are born then resources available

3) This competition selects for the more fit to survive and reproduce due to the traits they inherited.

4) The more fit breed and give rise to offspring that inherit some of the parental traits.

This cycle is the process of evolution, in my own words

Darwin stated that animals are impacted by their environment. Animals with a trait that allows then to flourish in an environment have an advantage in reproducing and pass their advantageous traits on to their offspring. The cumulative effect of generations of breeding to pass on advantageous traits will eventually reuslt in a population which is significantly different than the original specimen.

This process is used to explain the divergence of life into many forms from a few initial types.

For example: "Different species may or may not have different rates of evolution." That statement is consistent with the theory of evolution. There are many others. Your question is unclear.
