The wood is what makes strads sound the way they do. Yes many people do no this, but do they know why? When wood ages the fiber in the wood breaks down, this makes the vibration travel through the wood much easier. Any one who thinks the glue has any effect on the tone quality has been sniffing super glue, as for the varnish on any instrument its only serving two purposes, one to preserve the instrument, two make the instrument attractive. An instrument in the raw without any finnish would sound its best.
