This phase change is called sublimation. Although rare at standard temperature and pressure it can be seen.

The most common example is "dry ice", which is solidified Carbon Dioxide.

Naphthalene, commonly known as mothballs, also sublimates but is much less dramatic.

When ice melts and becomes water, that is a phase change. Same when water boils and becomes steam (a gas) that is also a phase change.
