Both Debian and Fedora are examples of Linux
Other examples of Linux distros include:
Ubuntu
Centos
RedHat
BackTrack
...
Some examples of different windows OS's are (In order of newest to oldest):
Windows 8
Windows 7
Windows Vista
Windows XP
...
One potential example could be installing both OS in the same hard drive but have space allocated for both.
for example if your original OS is Windows 7 you can pre-install Linux OS next to it by hard drive partition setting the ammount of space just for the Linux OS
lets say your hard drive is a 160GB and your original OS only needs 80GB to run properly what you do is partition the hard drive to set the other 80GB for the linux OS.
You will than have the option to run either OS without them interfering with eachother.
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and Android (Or Ubuntu, if you're one of those people fooling themselves into thinking Android is not Linux.).
