Right sided Inguinal hernias are more common because right sided testis descends later than left side. This is turn causes increased likelihood of patent processes vaginalis on right side causing higher incidence of right sided inguinal hernia.

It is still not clear why right testis descends later than left (may be anatomical reasons).

An inguinal hernia is a condition in which intra-abdominal fat or part of the small intestine, also called the small bowel, bulges through a weak area in the lower abdominal muscles. it is common in males because fat or part of the intestine slides more common in males than females because of the way males develop in the womb.

Men are more likely to have them because of the way males develop before birth. In male babies, the testicles form within the abdomen and then move down the inguinal canal into the scrotum.
Shortly after birth, the inguinal canal closes almost completely leaving just enough room for the spermatic cord to pass through but not enough to allow the testicles to move back into the abdomen.
Sometimes, the canal doesn't close properly, leaving a weakened area.

What people show the greatest likelihood of needing inguinal hernia repair?

The majority of hernias occur in males. Nearly 25% of men and only 2% of women in the United States will develop inguinal hernias. Inguinal hernias occur nearly three times more often in African American adults than in Caucasians.

What is the difference between a hiatal hernia and an inguinal hernia?

None. But there are two types of inguinal herniae (or hernias): direct and indirect. Direct inguinal hernias occur when abdominal contents herniate through a weak point in the fascia of the abdominal wall and into the inguinal canal. Indirect inguinal hernias occur when abdominal contents protrude through the deep inguinal ring; this is ultimately caused by failure of embryonic closure of the processus vaginalis.

Can gluteal pain be associated with inguinal hernias and groin pain?

In all the patients I've seen with inguinal hernias (a couple thousand), I never saw one that complained of buttocks pain...

What is the medical term meaning displacement of the intestines through the inguinal canal?

An inguinal hernia is the medical term meaning displacement of the intestines through the inguinal canal. Other relatively common types of hernias are umbilical, ventral, and incisional hernias.

Where do inguinal hernias occur in the abdominocrural crease?

Hernias above the abdominocrural crease are inguinal (latin, groin) and those arising below the crease are femoral (Latin, thigh) or crural (Latin, leg). -Schwartz

What hernia is most common in men?

By far the most common hernias (up to 75% of all abdominal hernias) are the so-called inguinal hernias. Much insight is needed in the anatomy of the inguinal canal. A hernia is protrusion of an organ or the muscular wall of an organ through the cavity that normally contains it. A hiatal hernia occurs when the stomach protrudes upwards into the mediastinum through the esophageal opening in the diaphragm.

Can a girl get a hernia?

Both men and women can get hernias the same way, a weak place in the muscles of the wall of a body cavity splits and allows the cavity contents to protrude. Hernias involving the abdominal cavity are common in men and women. They can happen any place in the abdominal wall muscles. They are called ventral hernias. A type more common in men, but also seen in women, occurs in the groin area called the inguinal area on either (or both) sides of the low abdomen and are called inguinal hernias. These frequently show up after a heavy lifting strain and protrude/"rupture". A lump may appear in the area with the pain which is actually a portion of bowel protruding through the muscle opening. In men, inguinal hernias may not show a lump in the inguinal area if the area of weakness is at the bottom and bowel slips into the scrotum and protrudes there as a lump in the scrotum. Other common places in the abdominal cavity wall that can "rupture" are in the area around or near the belly button, which are called umbilical hernias, or at an incision site from a previous surgery called incisional hernias.

Which condition occurs when part of the intestine pushes into scrotum?

Inguinal hernia

Do only boys get hernias?

No. Boys and girls (men and women) can get hernias. Men are 10 times more likely than women to get "inguinal hernia". In men, this occur when part of the intestine protrudes through a weak spot in the abdomen; often along the inguinal canal, which carries the spermatic cord and in women it can develop where the tissue that binds the uterus exits from the abdomen and joins with the tissue surrounding the vaginal opening.. Do pigs and other quadrupeds develop inguinal hernias?

Check out the posture of quadrupeds against that of bipeds, and consider where the weight of (especially abdominal) organs is expressed in the bodies of quadrupeds vs bipeds.

What body system involves a hernia?

Hernias can be found almost anywhere there is a membrane that lines a cavity (fascia). The abdominal cavity, thoracic cavity or meninges covering the brain. There are inguinal, umbilical, femoral, epigastric, anal, disc, or intracrainal hernias. Most involve the digestive system.

What is an inguinal lymph node?

What: The inguinal triangle, also called Hesselbach’s Triangle after Franz Caspar Hesselbach who first described the region, is a triangular region of potential weakness located on the inferoanterior (lower front) abdominal wall.Importance: The inguinal triangle is used to define inguinal hernias, as the triangle contains the medial inguinal fossa, a depression through which inguinal hernias bulge through the abdominal wall.Location: its medial border is formed the Rectus abdominis; the lateral border by the Inferior epigastric vessels; and the inferior border by the inguinal ligament (also called the Poupart’s ligament). The borders can easily be remembered using the mnemonic RIP.Contents: Structures that lay within the triangle include the Lacunar and Cooper’s ligaments as well as the Ductus deferens.
