The noble gases are the elements in group 18 (also sometimes Group 0 IUPAC Style, or Group 8) of the Periodic Table. It is also called helium family or neon family. Chemically, they are very stable due to having the maximum number of valence electrons their outer shell can hold. A thorough explanation requires an understanding of electronic configuration, with references to quantum mechanics. Noble gases rarely react with other elements since they are already stable. Under normal conditions, they occur as odorless, colorless, monatomic gases. Each of them has its melting and boiling point close together, so that only a small temperature range exists for each noble gas in which it is a liquid. Noble gases have numerous important applications in lighting, welding and space technology. The seven noble gasses are: helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, radon, and ununoctium
Inert means non reactive. The noble gases are pure elements that do not react with other elements. That is why they are on the right side of the periodic table. They contain full electron shells so they do not typically bond with other elements. Hydrogen, on the other hand, is one of if not the most reactive element which is why it is all the way on the left. Since helium has only one electron shell that can support two electrons, that is why it is separated to the far right with the other noble gases rather than being placed next to hydrogen with the heavier elements with two electrons in their outer shells. The sun is powered by nuclear fusion and takes hydrogen atoms and fuses them together into helium atoms creating massive amounts of energy in the forms of heat, light, electromagnetic waves, and other forms of radiation
Noble gases are helium and the rest of group 18, neon, argon , krypton, xenon and radon. They are also called the rare or inert gases. Noble and inert both mean unreactive, as they form almost no compounds.
Noble gases are all the elements found in group 18 on the Periodic Table.
a noble gas is a gas that is unreactive
No, it is a noble gas
