In general, it is better to have two guinea pigs than one because these are social animals that normally form communities in the wild (yes, there are wild guinea pigs). However, it is important to ensure that they are either the same gender (two boys or two girls) or that you have one or both neutered so that you don't go from having two guinea pigs to having a dozen.

∙ 14y agoyes its perfectly ok in most cases, in fact guinea pigs should be kept in (atleast) pairs, they survive better and are more happy in groups..just like humans they get lonely without friends...remember though : 2 males may tend to fight a bit & a male & female together WILL breed...your best bet is 2 or more females together for perfect harmony....

∙ 13y agoGuinea Pigs are social animals and ideally, need another Guinea Pig living with them. It is possible to only have one, but if you want your Guinea Pig to be happy, having two would be a better idea.

∙ 14y agoI'd say two females as two males will fight and be territorial, but maybe if you buy two young brothers that have always been together at put them in a hutch they will not fight.

It is better to get 2 gerbils because getting one get lead to it getting lonely unless you spend 13 hour per day with it. If you get two you only have to spend 15 minutes a day with both of them. Hope this helped!
