There is no definite answer as to why Kandinsky painted 'Black and Violet.' However, there is a common theory that he had Synesthesia. Along with that, he claimed he heard music when painting, so that may have translated to him 'hearing' black and violet leading to creating the painting.
I'm trying to find out the same thing but i can't find anything. I think it's something to do Kandinsky having synesthesia, which is a condition where a person senses are mixed up. So when Kandinsky heard the note C sharps Kandinsky saw the colour green. And also Kandinsky said when he saw paintings he heard music and when he heard music he saw paintings, vice versa. And what i believe is that maybe when he was painting black and violet he might of been listen to music, it's just a suggestion :)
Hope that helps :)
I searched all over the internet 'cause i needed some information on it but all i know is that it was painted in 1923.
I do not think Kandinsky is known under any other name, because Wassily Kandinsky is his real name. When he signed his pictures he wrote 'Kandinsky'.
Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky are two different persons.
The color red can be changed to violet by adding the color blue. Red and blue are both primary colors, a violet is a secondary color.
It is generally accepted that Wassily Kandinsky was the first abstract painter and in that, he was very much ahead of his time.A short and typical quote by Kandinsky himself: "The artist must train not only his eye, but his soul"from: "On the Spiritual In Art", Wassily Kandinsky, 1912More quotes by Kandinsky may be found using the link.
