Example: I buy a quart of chocolate ice cream and put it in the freezer. A few minutes later I see you go into the kitchen and then come out with chocolate ice cream on your face. I check the freezer and find that someone has eaten my chocolate ice cream. You deny having eaten it. I don't have eyewitness proof that you ate it, because I didn't see you eat it. However, the fact that only you and I had been in the kitchen, coupled with the ice cream on your face, is the CIRCUMSTANTIAL evidence that you DID eat the ice cream.
Well, 'circumstance' is just another word for a situation, so circumstantial is a word that is belong to, depending on, or consisting in a circumstance.

Why was none of the evidence about Scott Peterson presented at trial?

By all accounts, Scott Peterson had a high-powered, experienced defense team. His parents were able to pay the price and they got a "big name" attorney. In all my research and of the 5 books on the Peterson case that I have personally read, all evidence waspresented at trial.Unfortunately for Peterson, as the prosecution proceeded into the case, it was very difficult even for a defense team like Peterson's, to refute the facts. The prosecution built the case and presented it piece by piece, or should I say brick by brick, and those bricks could not be brought down by the defense, it was just too strong. The biggest brick of all was one of Peterson's own making, and her name was Amber Frey. Some people think that circumstancial evidence is unimportant and should be disreguarded. Nothing could be further from the truth. Circumstancial evidence can be very damning, and for Scott Peterson it most certainly was.

Is there any chance of aquittal for Casey Anthony?

Unless the defense can conjure up a miracle the possiblity of an aquittal is slim at best. Anthony sent a letter to another inmate stating that she would give Caley 'stuff' to knock her out, allowing her the freedom to party with friends without the cost of a babysitter. The circumstancial evidence alone is overwhelming. Casey Anthony is exactly where she should be.

What is th definition of propensity evidence?

I was doing a VCE Legal Studies SAC revision when I became stuck with the same question. I looked it up in my text book and google, and neither gave me a clear explanation so I went and asked my dad. He thinks that 'propensity' means chance. ie, evidence based on likelihood, similar to circumstancial evidence which is a set of circumstances or facts, rather than direct evidence, indicating that a certain event has happened. Prior convictions are normally inadmissible in Victorian Courts, however, it is supposedly admissible (allowed) if propensity evidence is allowed by the judge (who must adheare to the strict rules of evidence and procedure). This sourced information may be useful too: A particular species of 'propensity evidence', which is hereafter referred to as 'similar fact evidence', is any evidence of specific conduct, normally discreditable in nature, which is of the same general character or shares some common feature with the conduct which is the subject of the proceeding in question - and which is tendered as circumstantial evidence of one or more of the constituent elements of that conduct. If, for example, an accused has been convicted of one or more offences having a highly unique modus operandi, there are circumstances in which the convictions are admissible as circumstantial evidence of the accused's guilt of another offence committed with the same or very similar modus operandi.

What Ebola virus affects the humans?

Ebola seems to be infective exclusively to mammals and especially primates. It produces a high degree of morbidity and mortality in humans, green monkeys macaques, and others. Fruit bats have also been found to harbor indications of Ebola exposure in their livers, but it is thought that bats are not the vector, but actually suffer from the disease itself. The current guess (and it is no more than a guess at this time) is that the reservoir for Ebola may possibly be a long-lived arthropod, but this guess is based on circumstancial evidence and not clinical examination.
