Best Answer

When the number of rotor and stator poles are equal in the motor and if these rotor poles have opposite polarity with respect to the stator poles magnetic locking occurs.

This magnetic locking is know as "Cogging" in 3 phase squirrel cage induction motor.

In order to avoid this problem, the rotor slots housing the conductors are skewed by an angle of 5 degrees over the surface.

Which motor doesn't have any winding on its rotor?

Squirrel cage induction motors.

Disadvantages of a squirrel cage motor?

Squirrel Cage Induction Motor Disadvantages:Some of disadvantages or demerits of squirrel cage induction motors are listed below:Main disadvantage of squirrel cage induction motor is that they have poor starting torque and high starting currents. Starting torque will be in the order of 1.5 to 2 times the full load torque and starting current is as high as 5 to 9 times the full load current. In slip ring induction motors, higher starting torque can be attained by providing an external resistance in the rotor circuits during starting of the slip-ring induction motor. This arrangement in slip-ring induction motors also reduces the high inrush currents during starting of induction motor.Squirrel cage induction motors are more sensitive to the supply voltage fluctuations. When the supply voltage is reduced, induction motor draws more current. During voltage surges, increase in voltage saturates themagnetic components of the squirrel cage induction motor.Speed control is not possible in squirrel cage induction motor. This is one of the major diadvantages of squirrel cage induction motors. The total energy loss during starting of squirrel cage motor is more compared to slip ring motors. This point is significant if the application involves frequent starting

Why is the squirrel cage motor used in most industry?

because the squirrel cage induction motor is cheaper and high starting performance is not required.

Which motor is NOT suitable for use as a DC machine?

Squirrel cage motor

What are disadvantages of bldc motors?

1. A squirrel cage Induction motor is lesser costlier than electrical drive because of using coverters and control circuits . 2. Technology for dc drives is improved compared to ac drive 3. It is not reliable

What is squirrel cage induction generator?

Squirrel cage type is a type of Induction motor. It tells that the rotor is "squirrel cage" type. Another type of induction motor is with "slip ring" type of rotor. Squirrel cage type is most widely used Induction motor.

it is a cage that holds a squirrel over time

What motors does not utilize electrical conductors in its rotating component A synchronous B wound rotor C universal D squirrel cage-induction?

All motors require electrical conductors in their rotor!

What is the hermetic motor?

Hermetic motors are motors used in hermetic compressors. Hermetic motor use wound stators and squirrel cage rotors, without shaft bearings and have a relatively tight design.

Where would a squirrel cage motor be used?

The configuration of the rotor resembles the exercise wheel found in a squirrel cage. There is also a 'squirrel cage fan' that also is named for the resemblance.

When the slip ring induction motor is preferred?

larger synchronous motors start with a squirrel cage and run when dc is applied thru the slip rings small motors can have magnets in the rotor these can accelerate from rest to synchronous speed in a few seconds
