Critical Path Method (CPM) - A schedule network analysis technique used to identify the schedule flexibility and the critical path of the project schedule network diagram.

CPM for Print is easy. Ad Cost x 1000 / Circulation SO.....for a $3000 print ad....with a 90,000 copy print run $3000 x 1000 = 3,000,000 3,000,000 / 90,000 copies of the paper = $33.33 CPM FYI - CPM = Cost Per Mille (French for Thousand)
PERT stands for Program Evaluation and Review Technique. It is a project management methodology used to analyze and manage tasks involved in completing a project. PERT helps in determining the duration of the entire project by estimating the time required for each task and identifying the critical path.
Critical Path Method (CPM) is a step-by-step technique for process planning that defines critical and non-critical tasks with the goal of preventing time-frame problems and process bottlenecks. The CPM is ideally suited to projects consisting of numerous activities that interact in a complex manner. In applying the CPM, there are several steps that can be summarized as follows: * Define the required tasks and put them down in an ordered (sequenced) list. * Create a flowchart or other diagram showing each task in relation to the others. * Identify the critical and non-critical relationships (paths) among tasks. * Determine the expected completion or execution time for each task. * Locate or devise alternatives (backups) for the most critical paths. The CPM was developed in the 1950s by DuPont, and was first used in missile-defense construction projects. Since that time, the CPM has been adapted to other fields including hardware and software product research and development. Various computer programs are available to help project managers use the CPM.

Program Evaluation and Review Technique: is a network technique that uses three times estimates for each activity in a project. PERT is probalistic, whereas CPM is deterministic.

Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) lays the foundation of the network diagram or process by which the program will be completed. The Critical Path Method (CPM) is used within PERT to determine a critical path for a project within a program or the program itself if all the duration information is known for the program. CPM is a subset of PERT.
PERT/CPM suffers mainly suffers from a main issue is that when the network becomes very big (eg containing hundreds of activities) it becomes almost impossible to handle (printing, reading, etc...). Comparing CPM to CCPM we discover that CCPM has a better utilization of project resources, among other advantages.
