The men in Athens were free to do what they wanted when the men in Sparta had to train all day long giving no time to do anything else. boys were taken away from their mothers at age 7 to begin training.
they both had limited rights, they weren't allowed to vote but. women in Athens had practically no rights but women in Sparta could own land and learned to play sports like the boys.....but there was a way a women could be of significance in both Athens and Sparta, actually in all of Greece: a women could win the chariot races. that is because the winner is the owner of the horse. if the horse participating in the game was owned by the woman and it won, she would be a winner.
They were both Greeks raised in Hellenic culture. Spartan women had a lot more freedom and rights, able to go to gymnasia and festivals. Athenian women were basically house-bound, bearing and raising children and looking after the home and vegetable garden, kept in purdah and getting out for occasional women's religious festivals.
At Athens women were kept at home in virtual purdah, having children, looking after them, tending the house and vegetable garden, directing slaves, and getting out very occasionally for a women's religious festival.
At Sparta, they were much freer, indulging in their own sports and activities.
This of course does not include female slaves and serfs, who were property to be used and abused at the whim of their masters.
Femininity.
Spartan women participated in society and sports. Athenian women were kept at home in virtual purdah, running the household and bearing and raising children, getting out only for the occasional women's religious festival.
Sparta is ruled by two kings and Athens is ruled by a group of warriors.
IN Athens u don't ave to let go of your children even if they are weak or strong
help me
Sparta women lived freely while athen women couldn't even leave the house.
Sparta had a strong military reputation in Ancient Greece. Despite the city not being democratic like Athens many philosophers from Athens believed that the Spartans had a better system of government than their own. Sparta had a more stable system and an army that could out drill, out march and out fight any other army in Greece. All male citizens were equals and there was no real division between rich and poor. Sparta is located in a fertile valley protected by nature by the mountains that surround her. Also because the men were often away at war, the women of Sparta were more free than their counterparts in other city-states including Athens.
The women had way more right then the women in Athen
Well in Sparta, women didnt have much rights but had more freedom than women in Athens so you can say Sparta
In Athens women had no rights. In Sparta women had lots of rights
The difference between Sparta and Athens is that in Sparta, the ruling government was a military government, while in Athens, the ruling government was a democracy. In Sparta, the people focus on military matters. That is because of the fear of an uprising by their helots. In Athens, a democracy ruled. People voted on many matters such as which one they thought was the most dangerous to their testate and even military and naval expeditions against rival statutes. The different arts such as sculpture and poetry also flourished more in Athens. Athenians believed that one should also focus themselves on matters other than military ones. Athens focused on trades, technologies, civilizations, studies,... while Sparta focused on the military. That's why Spartan warriors were the most fierce warriors in Ancient Greece. Athens also treated their children differently. For example: Boys were taught reading, writing, mathematics, music, poetry, and sports. While in Sparta, they took them away from their parents at 7 yrs. old, to train for war. Further, in Sparta, both - boys and girls went to school, but in Athens, boys went to school but the girls did not, but attended basically, house work.
Spartan women lived a life of reasonable eqality with the men, however they did not serve in the army or political life. Athenian women were kept in virtual purdah - kept at home on domestic tasks and getting out for an occasional womens' religious festival.
I believe it was Sparta that did not have women participate in public life.
Athen children had to learn work hard
no difference
If you compare their situation to that of women in today's more fundamentalist countries, there is very little difference. Women were the 'posession' of their nearest male relative or of their husband, had very little legal rights, were expected to mostly remain in side the house and to venture out only in case of the occasional visit to an 'approved' friend or relative. Only the women of Sparta were equal to the men, had full legal rights, could dress as they liked and participate in sports.
The difference between men and women were that the men did a lot more work than the women at certain points of the year. The women did more home jobs.
