The bachelors in arts has a more theoretical approach, while the bachelors in science is more research focused. Still, it really depends on the institution and department of that institution that decides which one it is.

There is no such thing as a plain bachelors degree. Typically, within the US it is either a bachelors of arts (BA), or a bachelors in science (BS), depending on the program of study and the institutions prescribed focus within that field. Thus, the following.

The BA has a broader scope, with a strong emphasis on the humanities, theoretical and general knowledge in a recognized discipline, interdisciplinary field, or of a professional study.

The BS is more of a focused approach with a science base to include a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, math and computer oriented skills, and practical skills needed for a particular discipline within the field.

They are basically the same, however, the honors program particular to a specific field of study is much more rigorous and intensive coursework. It is typically designed to develop enhanced skills, critical thinking techniques, and in essence to bring out the best in students who have a passion for their education.

The Bachelor's of science is a general degree category from which many specific programs of study (majors) fall. For example, a bachelor of science in engineering, or a bachelor's of science degree in biology. The bachelor's degree level is referred to as undergraduate coursework. The professional degree is commonly referred to as First Professional degree, and is advanced coursework beyond the bachelor's degree and is typically specific to professions such as doctors, lawyers, etc.
