A Digital image is a two dimensional array, or a matrix, of square pixels (picture elements) arranged in columns and rows. A digital image is composed of a finite number of elements called pixels (short for picture elements), each of which has a particular location and value. Each pixel represents the colour (or gray level for black and white photos) at a single point in the image, so a pixel is like a tiny dot of a particular color.

Digital imaging is the art of making digital images – photographs, printed texts, or artwork - through the use of a digital camera or image machine, or by scanning them as a document. Each image is compiled of a certain amount of pixels, which are then mapped onto a grid and stored in a sequence by a computer. Every pixel in an image is given a tonal value to determine its hue or color.
