It is released when electrical impulses, such as external or impostor stimuli, create the nerve endings of each neuro-receptor to stimulate a secreted chemical called dopamine. Dopamine stays in the synapse, which is in between each neuro-receptor, stimulating the next neuro-receptor.

Dopamine is also used to help with Parkinson's disease, however, because of the Blood brain barrier, dopamine cannot get to the brain, therefore, levadopa is administered and once it has entered the brain, it is turned into dopamine.
