Foot injuries can take longer to heal. You might want to get an X-ray soon so you will know if it is just bruised or if it has a fracture.
If the foot is swollen or painful to stand on, elevate the foot. You can apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel, 10-15 minutes on then off for 15-30 minutes. You can re-apply ice. Just check the skin to make sure you aren't freezing it.
You can apply an ace bandage, if you know the right way to apply it. Start at the toes, and do an "8" overlapping as you go. Each time you wrap, you should be able to slide a finger under the material-- i.e. do not pull the wrap tightly. If after wrapping, the toes feel numb or being to change color, remove the wrap--it's too tightly applied. Leave off for a couple hours, then try re-wrapping it.
Bruises take time to heal. Elevation and ice will help somewhat.
With a foot, the best medicine is to not injure it further. Don't take aspirin, Motrin, or Aleve; these will all increase bruising. Don't do things that make it hurt, like hiking, cross country running, etc. Wear comfortable shoes and clean socks.
The same for any external bruise: Ice, eating healthy, a combination of hot and cold flanells applied to the area.
Sometimes it may be appropriate to also take supplements to boost your protein metabolism. Bromelian supplements for example work on the proteins effecting swelling and pain. Arnica cream is also sometimes helpful.
Always research any treatments you are unsure of.

A bruise is formed when one bumps into something or falls and is the mark coming through to the skin. The bruise also changes colour as it starts to fade and can turn into a yellow or brown shade. To relieve pain, Tylenol can be taken.
