What is happening at the end of 172 hours on the moon how did the alien thing get into mias spacecraft?

So at the end of the book when the two Mia's were fighting, it is just assumed that the real Mia made it into the space craft. But the book just said Mia made it into the space craft, which could be either of them. While they were fighting, the real Mia was knocked away and the other one escaped. After that, the real Mia just heads back to Darlah 2, writes a goodbye note to her family, goes outside, lies down and takes off her helmet, killing herself.
