The Iraq War is very complex thing that involves American and Coalition soldiers, various factional tribal groups, militant organizations, and a nascent Iraqi Army and Police Force. The American and Coalition forces supervised the ascendancy of the Iraqi Army and Police Force and tried to maintain a lid on the various factional groups, such as the Sadrists, Shi'a Groups in the Shi'a Holy Region, Sunni Arab Fedayyin, the Kurdish Pershmerga and branches of the PKK from attacking each other and establishing power bases.
Update: Since the American withdrawal in 2011, Iraq has been mostly peaceful and able to integrate most of the above groups into the government.

Why is the Iraq war happening?
The Iraq war aqainst the America is happening becaouse President George Bush said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq so they went to war to get rid of them. Actually, that's not why were at war. War in the middle east has been going on longer than you think, and it's not because there are weapons of mass destruction. Mostly now it's peace keeping missions, we as Americans and allied forces are trying to build the middle east into countries that are not runned by Al Quida.
