Anabolic steroids are the ones used and abused by body builders and athletes to help build muscle and enhance performance. Corticosteroids are are are used in many forms swelling and in…flamation from a variety of causes that may result in anything from itching to anaphylactic shock. No, dogs should not have any creams or lotions placed on them. When irritated, dogs tend to lick their skin where anything annoying or unusual is placed - when this is hydrocortisone cream, they will lick the cream off their skin and ingest it. The cream is not intended to be eaten and can cause sev…ere medical problems; it also significantly increases the absorption rate of the hydrocortisone, which can cause endocrine disruption in the body. Uses of hydrocortisone cream and benadryl cream overlap, so it might be a case of which works better for you. Hydrocortisone is used without a prescription for the temporary relief of (1) minor skin irritations, itching, and rashes caused by eczema, insect bites, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sum…ac, soaps, detergents, cosmetics, and jewelry; (2) itchy anal and rectal areas; and (3) itching and irritation of the scalp. It is also used to relieve the discomfort of mouth sores. Benadryl cream, Diphenhydramine, is an antihistamine used to relieve the itching of insect bites, sunburns, bee stings, poison ivy, poison oak, and minor skin irritation. Caution on using benadryl on poison ivy and poison oak: According to a New York Times article, you should not apply products containing a topical antihistamine, like Benadryl, because it can cause a sensitivity reaction that makes matters worse. No, hydrocortisone will not get rid of sebaceous cysts. The only way to get rid of them is to have them removed, including the sac. Usually, this involves a relatively simple bedside procedure that can be done in your primary care doctor's office where your physician will use a local anesthetic to n…umb the skin over the cyst, a scalpel to cut the skin overlying it and will extract it with a pair of hemostats. He may or may not drain the material inside the cyst first. Some people feel it is easier to get all the sac out if the cyst has been drained first, others disagree. So long as the entire sac has been removed, the cyst should not recur. ( Full Answer )
If you got a burn from your curling iron - and got a rash after applying hydrocortisone cream - what can you do to heal it?
Gently wash the burn clean with tepid, soapy water. If the skin isn't broken, just let it air-dry, then loosely bandage to keep the area clean. If the rash hasn't disappeared -- or is not greatly reduced -- in about 12 hours, consider using an antimicrobial cream or ointment, like NeoSporin. Once mo…re, if the problem persists 12 more hours with no improvement, time to see a doctor.. Steroids tend to reduce immune reaction, so they sometimes promote infection. That's one possibility; the other is you had an allergic reaction to the hydrocortisone cream. Removing it should help considerably. ( Full Answer )

Also, dogs are prone to licking at areas that are irritating, itchy or covered in go. Hydrocortisone cream is not intended to be eaten and can be toxic. ( Full Answer )

I have heard mixed things from vets about giving Benadryl to canines. From what I have been told, a lot of it has to do with the size of your dog. Their systems are totally different than ours, so dosing per weight would not be the same either. It really is best to go to the vet and find out what is… causing the problem. They may even be able to hook you up with meds that will work better on your dogs symptoms than anything you may able to self medicate him/her with. ( Full Answer )
It is NOT recommended to use hydrocortisone cream around the lips, mouth, or eyes because part of the medicine can be absorbed through the mucous membranes. Hydrocortisone is a steroid, which is a hormone. Used properly, it can have strong negative side effects; used improperly, those negative side …effects can be far worse. As well, as a steroid, the medication can have effects on body function and organs. When steroidal medications are used as directed, the negative effects and effects on organs are more controlled than if the med is used improperly. For example, hydrocortisone cream is often prescribed to be applied directly to a limited area of skin, say, hives. But, the med could have serious side effects if lathered over large areas of skin. Hydrocortisone cream can also thin the skin where it is applied, and lead to other skin problems. ( Full Answer )

Hydrocortisone is only used as a topical ointment to stop itching. It can be used to stop the itching of the pox, however, it does not get rid of the spots or help your body get over the illness sooner. Calamine lotion, an oatmeal bath, or other ointments work well for relieving the itching as well.… ( Full Answer )
I had flaking dry skin on my eyelids. Daktarin helped the dryness but did not cure it. The doctor prescribed clotrimazole and hydrocortisone cream twice a day for 7 days. It was scary stuff and I was very careful to not use too much at a time, it did irritate the eyes if I put on too much. …That said, the reason I'm posting is after eight months of problems, two months with Daktarin, this cream dealt with the issue completely in a week and I am very happy. Yes, I have used hydrocortisone cream along with Cetaphil moisturizing cream, and water, in a 30/30/40 mix. The object of the water addition, was to thin the viscosity of the 50/50 mix enough to enable the application of the mix to the scalp through using a Sweet & Low liquid, bottle with a 3 & 1 Oi…l, red micro tube extension. This applier and mix eliminated a scalp dandruff condition in less than a month, with an initial treatment and repeal maybe, every third day, then stretch it slowly an additional day until you can see the scalps healthy pink skin color. The initial condition of the scalp was very WHITE and thick with discarded scalp cells and much dandruff. The function of the Hydrocortisone was to eliminate itching and the Cetaphil cream worked its wonder transforming the white scaly scalp into a vibrant pink scalp in less than a month. Possibly the action was reversed, but I find Cetaphil products to work wonders with skin, including scalp. The receiving party has gone over 6 months without ANY type of treatment, and her scalp is STILL in pristine condition. Age: 80+ ( Full Answer )
It should be fine for most dogs if they lick the cream and accidently ingest it. Some dogs may get a red, sore spot from the cream, but probably nothing more than that. If you are still worried about it, call your local vets office.
Very sparingly. It will thin the skin wherever you use it, over time. I use it occasionally for eczema around my mouth and lips, but I try not to. If there is something else that soothes your lips, use that. J.L.G.

hydrocortisone is used to treat acne infections so if you have herpes it will offer a less-effective solution to valtrex. I developed a bumpy red rash on my legs (above the knees, behind the knees a bit on the skin and a bit on my lower thigh). After eliminating with the doctor all the possibilities it could have been (what I ate, anything new/different to my diet, new detergents, soap, creams, etc) we were just baffle…d but the itching was INSANE and driving me to no sleep and beginning to burn (I was trying not to scratch but it was inevitable!) She prescribed this cream for my legs (I only use Lubriderm on my body and it wasn't helping) and the minute I put it on, the itching, hurting, and burning stopped!! I couldn't believe it! It was wonderful and I needed to use it 2XS a day as needed and I DID! My rash is almost gone (I also needed prednizone low dose for one week) and NO I DID NOT GAIN ANY WEIGHT OR PUFFY FACE!) and feel so much better! Hope this helps anyone out - To you & Best of Health!! ( Full Answer )

No. It is not a fungus so the nystatin will not help (or hurt). It is a herpes infection so the steroid (triamcinolone) may make it worse. You can use Lysine pills, over the counter Abreva or several prescription products.
NO ... you will only alleviate the symptom ... the itch. Ringworm is caused by a fungus, so to cure the prime cause, you will have to use an anti-fungal agent
Yes it can be used on bug bites, my daughter had several mosquito bites and this is what her Dr gave her for them.
You can use hydrocortisone cream on a cat but they will end up licking it off and that's not good. There is a hydrocortisone spray that is specifically made for animals that is much safer to use.
