You are reliable for the information that you know and are able to perform. If anything is out of your line of practice, you shouldn't be performing that act. When you have that first aid training, people are more trusting with you, if such accidents were to happen.

Firstly; the question should read "What are the characteristics of first aid training?"

1. Check the area where the accident/incident occurred: is it safe for you to enter?

2. If possible, call 911 as soon as you reach the scene, as you may be too busy later.

3. Permission: if the victim is conscious you must ask their permission to aid them. They are legally entitled to refuse aid.

4. If the victim is unconscious, you may administer aid without fear of legal recourse, because the law indicates that Retention of Life has first priority.

5. Assess the injury/injuries and apply first aid to the top priority, remembering that

Life Over Limb always takes priority: If two victims are present; one is bleeding profusely from a severed artery and one has gone into cardiac arrest, the cardiac victim is first, because the first victim may lose a limb but will live; the second may not if not attended to immediately.

6. Get a written report of the accident/incident ASAP, while the details are fresh in the minds of victims/witnesses.
