This process is very similar to the rusting process of iron, only much quicker.

(Yes, there are animals that use copper to carry oxygen through the body. Copper when combined with oxygen is greenish. Octopuses and Vulcans have green blood).

(OK, Vulcans don't exist, but Octopuses are real.)
