First of all, the reason tornadoes occur is a natural phenomenon called "Rain Shadow", a way a storm moves across the sea, hits land, goes over mountains (and weakens), goes past the mountains and regains strength to usually unprecedented heights. Where occurs past the rain shadow (or desert) usually on vast tracts of plains.

Beaches are usually the most severelly impact. Hurricanes form over the ocean and cause damage when they hit land. When this happens the wind can drive seawater onto land in what is called a storm surge. Beaches bear the brunt of this storm surge and beachfront properties are usually the first to be destroyed.
