The difference between the two lies in the mineral crystal size. Rocks that form from lava on the surface will cool quickly, with little time for crystal formation. Rocks that form from magma below the surface will cool slowly, resulting in larger mineral crystals. Chemically, they could be identical.

Igneous rocks are formed from the cooling and solidification of magma. Intrusive igneous rocks are formed from magma below the surface. Extrusive igneous rocks are formed from lava (magma on the surface).

Igneous rocks from magma are intrusive as magma is inside the earth.

Igneous rocks from lava are extrusive as lava is magma when it has reached the surface of the Earth.

The effect of this is that intrusive igneous rocks tend to have better formed crystals as they form over a longer period of time, as opposed to extrusive rocks which have been cooled quickly, sometimes because of contact with water.

Lava is on the outside of the volcano and when it cools it forms extrusive igneous rock that are fine grained.

When magma on the inside of a volcano cools, this rock is called intrusive igneous rock are coarse grained.

Both rocks can look similar but some extrusive igneous rocks like obsidian can have a glassy and smooth texture.

Well they aren't at all because magma is the same as lava and so the difference is that magma is inside a volcano but lava is on the outside so only lava (magma) forms igneous rocks and that's it.

Magma is the liquid form of rock, usually greater than 600 degrees C. At this temperature, the rock begins to melt into a superheated liquid. :)

btw, liquid rock is either magma or lava, depending if its above or below the earths crust

Technically, magma and lava are the same. They are both molten rock, the "difference" is that lava is molten rock flowing above ground and magma is molten rock flowing underground.
