Honour is the adherence to a set of guidelines for behavior which you see as correct. The problem is that there is no absolute measure of what is right or wrong. In western culture adherence to a broad range of Judeo-Christian memes is generally accepted as honorable. Things like the practice of "honour killings" of women in India would be viewed as wrong.

As examples both a movie cowboy who talks straight, cares for his horse and rides into the sunset without kissing the girl is honorable, and Inspector Javert in "Les Miserables" saw himself as an honorable man. Both follow the broad Western cultural guides. Yet we tend to see Jarvais as a villain.
