What is used in magnets more often Nickel or Silver?

Nickel is used to make magnets more often than silver is, for two main reasons: 1). Silver is much more expensive than nickel. 2). Silver is diamagnetic. That means it has a weak, negative susceptibility to magnetic fields, it's slightly repelled by a magnetic field, and it does not retain the magnetic properties when the external field is removed. That means that even if silver were much cheaper than nickel, silver makes crummy magnets that are totally useless as magnets, and you would just have to use nickel anyway.

Magnet made with iron nickel or cobalt?

A magnet made with any of those elements would be called a ferromagnet. Certain combinations of metals or alloys are called by names that more distinctly identify them. For example, the alnico magnet (made from aluminum, nickel and cobalt) is one of the strongest magnetic alloys known.

Is nickel a good thermal conductor?

Its OK: most metals are good conductors -------------------------------------------- More: since a nickel is made out of copper and nickel then it is sure to be a good conductor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ More Information: Pure nickel is not a very good thermal conductor compared to other metals like copper. Nickel is often mixed with other metals, such as copper, and those alloys often have better thermal conductivity than pure nickel.

Is aluminum more dense than iron?

Yes, aluminum is approximately 2.7 times more dense than water

Is nickel a pure metal?

No, because steel is a mixture.True, but more to the point:Nickel is an element, chemical symbol Ni, chemical element Z = 28, a silvery-white metal, a ferromagnetic metal [you can make magnets with it]. All by itself. Nickel is not a mixture of anything.

What metals are used in magnets?

Most magnetic alloys are based on one or more of the following:ironnickelcobaltHigh field strength modern alloys also contain rare earth metals.

What are some future uses of nickel?

to make more powerful magnets & to make nickel batteries

What is the difference between an alnico magnet and ferrite magnet?

The term alnico is derived from the names of three metals, aluminum, nickel, and cobalt, which can be used to make an alloy that has useful magnetic properties. Ferrite is a form of iron. Alnico magnets are more powerful and more expensive than ferrite magnets.

What are the 4 different types of magnetic materials?

Iron, Nickel, Cobalt and Gadolinium are the 4 metallic elements with strong magnetic properties but their are more materials than can be magnetic. Steel is an iron alloy that is magnetic. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, chromium and maybe other materials. Not all stainless steel is magnetic. The amount of magnetic material in it (iron, nickel) determines if it is magnetic or not. ALNICO magnets made of Aluminum, Nickel, and Cobalt are very strong permanent magnets. Ceramic magnets are made of a powdered magnetic material mixed with a ceramic material that gives them a softer texture that will not scratch surfaces and they are popular as refrigerator magnets.

What metals make the best magnets?

It is at the poles; north and south. That is were things get attracted to

What are the 3 pure metals which don't stick to magnets?

Copper, Gold, Silver, Aluminum, Zinc and many more.

What is the slogan for nickel the element?

nickel-it can be found in your beans, forks, and magnets....oh yeah, rocket engines too.

What can magnets pick up?

A 'tin can' is actually made of steel, which is a magnetic alloy of iron. There is sometimes a layer of tin (or zinc), electroplated onto the surface, so the name is misleading. It is more properly a 'tinned' can as it is a steel can which has been 'tinned' to stop it from corroding.

What is more durable Aluminum or steel doors?

Steel is a harder and more durable metal than aluminum. Therefore, steel doors are often more durable and more difficult to damage than aluminum doors.
