Which is best - Warhammer Fantasy or Warhammer 40k?

From what I have seen in stores in terms of selection and availability and forums with both subjects it looks that Warhammer 40k is more popular. Though their difference in popularity does not seem to be much.

Answer Neither gaming system can be promoted as better than the other. Both are good gaming systems, with different advantages and disadvantages.

Some claim that Warhammer Fantasy is more tactically inclined when it comes to positioning you troops and maneuvering around the battle field.

Others believe Warhammer 40,000 to be the better as their is more variety, as the universe in which it exists is far larger, with much more background information.

The main difference between the two is the Warhammer Fantasy is set around a medieval time period, the beginning of the fire arms age, where as Warhammer 40,000 is set 40,000 years in the future.

Warhammer 40k.

Warhammer 40k is more fast paced, and seems to feel more original. Warhammer fantasy is more strategic and slower paced, and because its fantasy is more of the same. I play both. Its really up to personal opinion, but you will find more 40k players than fantasy as a rule.

It's like asking which is better, a frog or a toad. Unless one of your animals is sick, it's hard to say which is doing better.

But really, it depends on what you are looking for, a colorful fantasy game with army tactics and magic, or a sci-fi gothic game with mostly shooting and assault (which Fantasy has also) and, at this point in the game, mechanized.. things.

Answer Warhammer 40k is more guns where as Fantasy is medieval and swords and bows. If you have to choose between the two, choose Fantasy because it's older.

The Warhammer 40k rules have undergone more revisions than the LotR rules, and with that one could say Warhammer 40k is a better game, but it is a matter of personal opinion.
