The Octaves Law by John Newlands which was declared in 1864, can be stated as; 'When the elements are arranged in the order of increasing atomic weight, there'll be elements with chemically and physically similar properties seven elements apart, which is same as in musical scales'.

When his (modified) Periodic Table was submitted to the Chemical Society in London in 1865, and published in 1866, it was ridiculed and there were only three points of dismissive discussion. Although it was discarded by most of the scientists, Newlands was later awarded the Davy Medal in 1887, because of the importance of discovering periodicity.

Newlands' table contains 7 rows with roughly 8 elements per row.

Opinion of the original answerer:

There were inaccuracies in his table as some elements were not discovered in that time, but it was considerably identical to other classifications in that time period.

Newlands' original (1864) table recognised the same types of regularity as found in the more celebrated tables of Mendeleev and Lothar Meyer, but it only included 24 of nearly 60 known elements. His 1865-66 revision included 56 elements, but the classification of elements into families was greatly inferior and very questionable. His table was not nearly of the same quality as Mendeleev's, and there were quite valid reasons for the lack of recognition at the time of publication.
